W200 Week 14 Workout - Assistive Technologies

For the interactive quiz I created about Egyptian Civilization, there is a variety of ways that learners with special needs could take this quiz. What the quiz entails is a PowerPoint slide show with an interactive quiz in it. Students would need to be able to see the PowerPoint and use the mouse to click on answers. For students who have trouble seeing, they could go to http://www.thrall.org/largeprint/ to see whatever they want in large print. They can make it however large they would like. If this is the case, they will also need to use the keyboard. If they have problems using keyboards, they can use an on-screen keyboard that is available in the search menu of computers. The administration just needs to make sure that they have the application on each school computer. There is also a website for this: http://www.microsoft.com/enable/training/windows2000/fontkeys.aspx. Another way they can see the print bigger is to go to http://www.ancientsoft.com/ezmagnifier.htm. This application magnifies certain parts of the screen for students with vision difficulties. For students who have trouble using or moving a mouse, they can go to the website http://www.daube.ch/share/win02.html and use keyboard keys to move the mouse.

To see a list of more assistive technology go to http://www.internet4classrooms.com/special_needs_assistive.htm. There are many helpful applications to help students with special needs.
